My 5 Takeaways from Sahil Bloom and Ali Abdaal's Live Event in London

Today I want to talk to you about my last trip to London.

I shall call it a 'soul trip'.

I have travelled alone for the first time in a very long time without my family.

I don't usually make New Year's resolutions but do something new every year.

This year will be the year of "soul trips".

What is a soul trip?

Travelling alone for 1-2 days to meet and get inspired by events or people around Europe.

As simple as that.

My first trip was to London last Friday evening, and it was a joint live event at the London School of Economics with Sahil Bloom and Ali Abdaal.

Sahil Bloom and Ali Abdaal's live event was called "10 Lessons That Changed Our Lives.

Besides the event, Sahil Bloom had an informal meetup at a coffee shop across Borough Market and spent a couple of hours talking and chatting with a few of us.

Most people who attended this event were business owners and content creators.

I'm saying this because you have probably already bumped into some LinkedIn post or newsletter about this event.

Therefore, I'm trying to take a slightly different view.

I won't list the ten life lessons Sahil and Ali shared but will share my five takeaways.

The things that stuck with me, both around the trip and the event.

Let's go!

Takeaway n. 1 - Energy is Regenerative.

We are used to thinking that Energy drains and that it's like a battery as the day passes. You start the day, and it's complete; you end it, and it's empty. Not quite that. Energy can be generated if we do things that inspire us. Suppose you take on a project you like or go for a run or a workout if you spend time with people you love. Despite 'spending' energy, it automatically creates new energy.

Takeaway n. 2 - The Third Door

Inspired by the book The Third Door by Alex Banayan, you need to find the third door. The third door is the door nobody is opening, the 'other' way of achieving what you want. The third door might be the unusual, creative, out-of-the-box way you want to launch your business. It's the door that only creativity and curiosity can see.

Find the third door.

Takeaway n. 3- The Who, not the How

This came from Ali Abdall specifically. If you want to do something new, launch something or anything you haven't done before, try to think about the Who, not the How. Often, we get stuck in the 'How to do Things', which freezes us because of the unknown or the difficulties we may face. Try to focus on the Who instead. Who did this thing successfully? Go and talk to them! They will help you figure it out, and the How will become much easier.

If you start to walk the way, the way will appear. (this is a quote that Sahil mentioned a few times).

Takeaway n. 4 - The Soul Trip

It's been a soul trip for me, but if you are lucky enough to live in a big city like London or New York, you are lucky enough. Why? You want to be in excellent, inspiring cities where inspiring things happen. You should travel, meet interesting people, and have time to live those experiences. Too often, we get stuck in our offices, routine. Break it and travel 1-2 days somewhere alone and get inspired.

This trip to me was precisely this, and as mentioned, I will do it again in March to see Steven Bartlett live. Looking forward to that one!

Takeaway n. 5 - The Time Billionaire

This is Sahil's most viewed and liked post/newsletter. I'm not sure you heard, but it talks about the fact that 1-2 billion seconds are in our lives. So, we are all billionaires. Time is our greatest thing; we would never trade time for money. Think briefly: would you trade your age and time with Warren Buffet's time and wealth?

No. You will never agree to that.

TL; DR

This trip sparked a huge energy in me, and I'm glad I did it.

My five takeaways from this incredible trip to London:

  1. Energy is regenerative

  2. Find the Third Door

  3. The Who, not the How

  4. The Soul Trip

  5. The Time Billionnaire

Thank you for reading this far. I'll see you next week, on the same day at the same time.

P.S. Here are some pictures from these two incredible days!
